Mission Statement
Women In Government Foundation, Inc., headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a national, non-profit, non-partisan organization of women state legislators that provides leadership opportunities, networking expert forums, and educational resources to address and resolve complex public policy issues to all 1,744 women state legislators.

History
Founded in 1988, Women In Government is a is a national, non-profit, non-partisan organization that has led the nation with its vision to empower and mobilize all women legislators to effect sound policy.
With over 20 years of experience working with state legislators, state agency representatives and the public, Women In Government proudly hosts over 12 educational conferences annually to address the nation’s public policy issues.
Through the support of our sponsors, including corporations, foundations and state and federal grants, Women In Government provides its members with full legislative scholarships. These scholarships provide conference participants with opportunities to hear presentations from nationally noted expert speakers, receive comprehensive issue-based information and network with fellow policymakers, sharing best practices and developing policy solutions.
Women In Government ensures that members and partners are provided with up-to-date publications and resource materials on cutting-edge policy topics.
Beginning in 2004, Women In Government launched several Policy Resource Centers that provide state legislators with information about Cervical Cancer Prevention, Access to Higher Education, Kidney Health, and Medicare Preventive Services. The Resource Centers provide educational materials and resource tools, including legislative toolkits, while identifying important policy issues and supporting state legislative activity. Women In Government continually changes the Policy Resource Centers to reflect the demands for issues. Currently we are featuring Biomedical, Bone Health, Oncology, Diabetes, Family Economic Success, and Autoimmune Disease as issues with full Policy Resource Centers.
Women In Government’s Board of Directors is composed of 16 female state legislators who help recruit new members and provide support to the organization. The Board is made up of both Democrats and Republicans, reflecting Women In Government’s non-partisan nature.
Since its founding, Women In Government has successfully carried out educational programs in several policy areas. Some of Women In Government’s accomplishments include the Challenge to Eliminate Cervical Cancer Campaign, a women’s healthcare platform, osteoporosis legislation, the establishment of State Offices of Women’s Health, raising awareness of mental health parity issues and women in prisons initiatives, as well as many more. Women In Government has raised over $18.4 million in educational grants and donations from corporate bodies, foundations and individuals, and has held over 250 meetings, engaging women state legislators from across the country.
