
Ms. Beatty joined Women In Government as President in 2008 following a twenty year career in government affairs and nonprofit leadership. For three years, Ms. Beatty served as Executive Director of the National Environmental Policy Institute, a bi-partisan environmental nonprofit in Washington, D.C. In this role, she led a Congressionally funded pilot, known as eCommute, which promoted air quality improvements, energy savings and congestion benefits of telecommuting through financial incentives. During this time she also created the Environmental Foundation of the States, a coalition of state legislators working on environmental legislation in their states. Prior to this, she worked in state affairs for two Fortune 500 energy firms and served as Director of State Government Affairs for a major natural gas firm. During her fifteen year career in state government relations she has worked in over 30 states.
In addition to her professional background, Ms. Beatty is serving her third term as a District of Columbia Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner (ANC) for Ward 6A. Due to her leadership in this elected office, her ANC was named Best ANC 2008 by Washington City Paper. Ms. Beatty holds a Masters of Social Science from the University of Oklahoma and a Bachelor’s of Arts (History) from University of Texas at Arlington. She moved from Texas to Washington DC in 1994 where she resides with her husband. She is the mother of two grown children and grandmother to three.
