H.R. 1548 (2009) - Pathway to Biosimilars Act
This federal legislation attempted to amend the Public Health Service Act to establish a pathway for the licensure of biosimilar biological products, and for other purposes. The authors introduced the act to ensure patient safety, recognize the scientific differences between small-molecule drugs and biologics, and preserve incentives for innovation. This act became law as a part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
H.R. 5116 (2010) – Reauthorization of The America Creating Opportunities to Meaningfully Promote Excellence in Technology, Education, and Science (COMPETES) Act
This piece of federal legislation reauthorized the original act to spur American innovation through basic Research and Development and strengthen STEM education programs. The bill increased research investments in science, promoted pioneering research, improved science, math, technology, and engineering education at all levels. This reauthorization also established an interagency STEM education coordination committee.
