About the Resource Center

Women In Government’s Bone Health Policy Resource Center has been created to serve as a source of information, education, awareness, and springboard for action to facilitate the detection and treatment of osteoporosis and other diseases affecting bones.

The Resource Center represents Women In Government’s re-engagement with bone health and osteoporosis and aims to build on successful initiatives from years past, including a series of policy roundtables from 1994 to 1997 that resulted in osteoporosis legislation being proposed in 19 states and passed in eight.

The importance of addressing osteoporosis cannot be overstated. One in two women over 50 will experience an osteoporosis-related fracture, and as America’s population ages more and more people will be at risk of developing this disease. The financial burden of osteoporosis will approach $36 billion by 2050. Taking action today will help ease those costs and improve the health and well-being of millions of Americans in the future.
