Representative Patti Bellock, Women In Government, and Strategy Labs, in association with the Lumina Foundation, and Young Invincibles is hosting an intense discussion aimed at making changes in society to help promote higher education attainment.

This discussion was inspired by Goal 2025, a strategic plan designed to increase the proportion of Americans with high-quality college degrees, certificates or other credentials to 60 percent by 2025. To reach this goal, the nation, and Illinois, needs to invest differently in a student-centered, outcomes-driven postsecondary education system.  While Illinois is a state that provides high tuition aid, the aid is not keeping up with rising tuition costs.

This discussion will address aligning investments with higher education attainment goals and developing and implementing comprehensive tuition and financial aid policies to promote access and success, particularly for low-income students.

Though there are budgetary pressures Illinois, like many other states, is experiencing, particularly when it comes to funding higher education which in turn translates into higher tuition costs for students, we hope the conversations between students and legislators will surface innovative pathways to higher education attainment consistent with Goal 2025.
