Women In Government today issued policy recommendations on the current state of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in America. The policy recommendations were issued after a day-and-a-half meeting that brought together national experts on issues including a clinical overview of RA in America, state programs and policies, personal perspectives on living with this disease, the costs of RA, and vocational rehabilitation opportunities. ![]() Women In Government Announces Mary Brooks Beatty As New President
Washington, DC --- Oct. 24, 2008 --- Women In Government, a nonprofit, bipartisan organization of women state legislators, today announced Mary Brooks Beatty as its new President, effective Nov. 17, 2008. Ms. Beatty comes to Women In Government with an extensive background in state legislatures and government affairs, and has served as Executive Director for a national environmental nonprofit. Ms. Beatty will replace current President, Susan Crosby, as she retires at the end of this year. Ms. Crosby has served Women In Government as a member of the Board of Directors during her legislative career in the late 1990s, and as Deputy Executive Director and President since 2004. |
December 1st is World AIDS Day. Established in 1988 by the World Health Organization, the purpose of World AIDS Day is to increase awareness of this global epidemic. In addition to this program, many organizations, including the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, have dedicated the entire month of December to AIDS Awareness. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, in 2007 there were approximately 33 million people worldwide infected with HIV/AIDS. Read more »
