Improving Access to Kidneys: A Look At Transplantation
Kidney disease, already a widespread issue in the United States, will become an even bigger problem in the future due to the increasing number of diabetes diagnoses and increasing average life span, according to experts. This will lead to more demand for kidney donation, a problem that has become more acute in recent years due to the rising number of kidney disease patients and the static number of kidneys available for donation. State legislators can address this problem by introducing legislation that would improve access to donated organs and to medications needed once a kidney donation operation has taken place.
