Washington, DC:  After an extensive search, the Board of Directors of Women in Government (WIG) is pleased to announce that Dyan Alexander has been chosen as the organization's new Executive Director. Women In Government Foundation, Inc., headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a national, non-profit, non-partisan organization of women state legislators that provides leadership opportunities, networking, expert forums, and educational resources to address and resolve complex public policy issues to all 1,788 women state legislators.

Women In Government was pleased to announce its Outreach to Vulnerable Populations meeting, that was held in St. Louis, Missouri. Women legislators from across the country met to discuss policies aimed at addressing the aging populations’ struggles financial literacy, elder justice, achieving higher education, and healthcare.

Women In Government will bring together Florida legislators for a State Briefing hosted by Representative Janet Cruz on diabetes in Tallahassee, Florida on April 21, 2014, to provide legislators with ways to identify costs and problems associated with diabetes in their state.The State Briefing will feature a presentation about diabetes prevalence, an update on diabetes caucuses, and information on why it is important to keep diabetes as a continual priority.

Washington, D.C. - February 21, 2014 - Women In Government Foundation, Inc (WIG) and Women In Government Coalition for Advocacy and Networking's (WIG CAN!) Board of Directors has appointed Dyan Alexander as the Interim Executive Director to fill the vacancy of Marjorie Maginn. Ms. Maginn, announced in January that she has decided to leave after almost three years leading the organization. Until a more permanent candidate is hired, Ms. Alexander will lead organization. The Board of Directors has begun a national search to permanently fulfill the position of President and Executive Director.

Today, Women In Government launched the Pulmonary Hypertension Policy Resource Center (PRC). The PRC will serve as a resource for our almost 1,800 women state legislators and constituents, providing the tools and knowledge necessary to support sound policies that help with the advancement of Pulmonary Hypertension awareness, prevention, and treatment. The Policy Resource Center builds on Women In Government's previous work on a Pulmonary Hypertension Toolkit, which has been available since January.

Agenda topics will include healthcare, energy, economic development, education and leadership among others.  The speakers will be a mix of content area experts and veteran legislators. We anticipate approximately 60 State Directors in attendance, in addition to speakers, sponsors and staff. We will welcome women from the Offices of Women's Health to participate, as well as young women from local colleges to participate in our leadership program, Future Women In Government.

Women In Government (WIG) today announced the launch of its Pulmonary Hypertension Legislative Toolkit, designed to provide information and resources regarding Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) for women state legislators. Each year, 10 to 15 million people are diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension, 200,000 are hospitalized, and more than 15,000 die of the disease.
