Osteoporosis Awareness Month

Women In Government recognizes May as Osteoporosis Awareness Month. Osteoporosis means “porous bone” and is characterized by weak bones with low bone mass. It is a “silent” disease, meaning that people who have osteoporosis often don’t know they have it. Women and men with osteoporosis are susceptible to fracture, in fact, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men aged 50 and over will suffer from an osteoporotic fracture.

Do you know if you're at risk? Check out the National Osteoporosis Foundations website for more information about how you can take action to protect your bones!
