The Importance of STEM Education
One of the most important issues in higher education is the future of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education. Improving Access to Kidneys: A Look At Transplantation
Kidney disease, already a widespread issue in the United States, will become an even bigger problem in the future due to the increasing number of diabetes diagnoses and increasing average life span, according to experts. This will lead to more demand for kidney donation, a problem that has become more acute in recent years due to the rising number of kidney disease patients and the static number of kidneys available for donation. State legislators can address this problem by introducing legislation that would improve access to donated organs and to medications needed once a kidney donation operation has taken place.

Ensuring Family Economic Success

Family economic success can significantly enhance the quality of life and access to opportunities for low-income families, and can improve the key factors in family stability. State policies can help ensure family economic success through legislation that prevents practices such as predatory lending and extends tax relief that benefit families in need.

Preventing Cervical Cancer: New State Policy Opportunities
Women In Government is committed to the elimination of cervical cancer, a preventable disease. Cervical cancer is caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is so widespread that 80 percent of women will contract some form of it before age 50. Many women do not know the cause of cervical cancer, and that it can go undetected unless a woman receives proper screening. The most important thing women can do to protect themselves is to receive appropriate vaccination (against HPV) and screening.
