Washington, D.C. -- January 14, 2010 -- Women In Government welcomed its new Board of Directors at the 16th Annual State Directors’ Conference held January 7 through January 9, 2010 at the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel in Dana Point, California.
The new Board of Directors included four new members: Representative Terri Austin (IN), Representative Joan Brady (SC), Assemblywoman Fiona Ma (CA), and returning Board Member Representative DebraLee Hovey (CT).
The organization is proud to name Representative Terri Austin (IN) as the new Board Secretary. “Representative Austin has been a longtime member of WIG and a leader for transportation issues in her state. We are very excited about the knowledge and commitment that she will bring to the Board on this issue,” said WIG President Mary Beatty.
WIG is also pleased to have Representative DebraLee Hovey (CT) rejoin the Board, serving as a Member at Large. “She has always been a loyal contributor to Women In Government,” said Mary Beatty. “We are so pleased that she has chosen to serve the organization again.”
WIG has chosen Representative Joan Brady (SC) as the Board’s Southern Regional Director. Mary Beatty said, “Representative Brady is a champion on issues that WIG has become nationally recognized for, especially children’s and family issues. As one of the few females in the South Carolina State Legislature, she is a true example of what women can bring to the political arena.”
WIG is proud to announce Assemblywoman Fiona Ma (CA) as the Western Regional Director on the Board. “We are excited to have Assemblywoman Ma bring representation from the state of California to our Board. As the former chair of the Women’s Caucus and Majority Whip in California, she is a remarkable example of women’s leadership and we are thrilled that she can share her experiences with our Board and organization at large,” said Mary Beatty.
These members join our returning Board Members: Representative Mary Sue McClurkin (AL), Immediate Past Chair; Senator Katie Dorsett (NC), Chair; Representative Kim Rosen (ME), Vice-Chair; Representative Barbara Marumoto (HI), Treasurer; Senator Nan Orrock (GA), Member at Large; Representative Kathy Hawken, Member at Large; Senator Bettye Davis (AK), Member at Large; Delegate Joseline Peña-Melnyk, Eastern Regional Director; and Representative Patti Bellock (IL), Midwestern Regional Director.
