Women In Government Appoints Interim Executive Director

Washington, D.C. - February 21, 2014 - Women In Government Foundation, Inc (WIG) and Women In Government Coalition for Advocacy and Networking's (WIG CAN!) Board of Directors has appointed Dyan Alexander as the Interim Executive Director to fill the vacancy of Marjorie Maginn. Ms. Maginn, announced in January that she has decided to leave after almost three years leading the organization. Until a more permanent candidate is hired, Ms. Alexander will lead organization. The Board of Directors has begun a national search to permanently fulfill the position of President and Executive Director.
 
Ms. Alexander is currently the Director of Policy & Programs with WIG where she has played an integral part in the continuation and expansion of the organization's programming. She has extensive experience in senior positions in the healthcare and energy sectors where she was engaging at the global, federal, and state levels. Ms. Alexander has worked for AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals LP serving as the State Government Affairs Director of Operations, PAC manager for Lockheed Martin, and with Baltimore Gas & Electric as Senior Public Affairs Representative. She played an important role with AstraZeneca on the State Government Affairs National Leadership Team responsible for identifying emerging issues and developing creative/obtainable legislative and health policy strategies to meet business objectives, most recently focused on the new paradigm created by healthcare reform. As PAC manager for Lockheed Martin, she was tasked with managing $1m and crafting their annual solicitation theme. At Baltimore Gas & Electric as the Senior Public Affairs Representative it was her responsibility to administer the Federal and State Political Action Committee, grassroots program and issues management activities. 
 
In her earlier career, Ms. Alexander administered a statewide voter registration program with the Maryland State Board of Election Laws and coordinated several political campaigns for candidates seeking office as the Annapolis Mayor and in the State Legislature.
 
At AstraZeneca, she worked with WIG to create a series of seminars and a video for Legislative Survivors of Breast Cancer. The program was widely considered successful.
 
Her experience with lobbying lawmakers, building advocacy coalitions, and crafting innovative policy solutions will be among many of her contributions to leading the organization. Additionally, she has demonstrated success in leading project teams and managing budgets to drive business and policy objectives with diverse internal and external audiences. "The Board of Directors and I are confident in Dyan's ability to manage the organization while we search for a more permanent person to fulfill the duties of President and Executive Director", said Iowa Representative Helen Miller, WIG 2014 Board Chair. "Dyan has done an impeccable job in her current position. We look forward to working with her in the days ahead". The board will be taking applications for the President & Executive Director role, ensuring they have the best person to fill this leadership position. 
 
Ms. Alexander's official first day as Interim Executive Director will begin Monday, February 24, 2014.
