WIG Hosts Maryland Women’s Caucus Breakfast

A total of 30 women state legislators were in attendance. At the meeting,  Delegate Cullison reviewed over three new human trafficking bills the Women’s Caucus voted to support. The main focus of these bills is to raise awareness, for example one bill is dedicated to recognizing the human trafficking during World War II. All in attendance voted to support the bills and there were no nay votes.

Next Delegate Peña-Melnyk presented her idea to help low income women in shelters with sanitary napkin donations. She asked the caucus to support donations and the placement of collection boxes for women’s sanitary products in the House and Senate office buildings. All in attendance were in support of this idea.
The caucus was joined briefly by the Senate President Mike Miller who introduced himself and spoke about his familial background, entrance into politics, and support for women in the state legislature.

Dyan Alexander, Executive Director of Women In Government (WIG), briefly addressed the women’s caucus about WIG's programs. Dyan explained WIG’s mission and discussed our upcoming programs and conferences. She encouraged all legislators to attend.

After the meeting, Wig staff were delighted to attend the Senate session and saw Senator Pugh and Senator Montgomery present awards to local Maryland citizens (such as the Eagle Scouts of Maryland).
