Executive Director

Lucy Gettman

Lucy Gettman is Executive Director of Women In Government (WIG), Inc., an organization of women state legislators that provides leadership opportunities, networking, expert forums and educational resources for policy makers. She previously served as Chief Advocacy Officer for the National School Boards Association (NSBA) the federation of 50 state associations representing 90,000 local school board members. Prior to NSBA, Gettman was Director of Government Relations for the Reading Recovery Council of North America, from which she received the Reading Recovery Teacher Leader Award in 2009. She also held professional positions at the Ohio House of Representatives, the Ohio Attorney General and the Inter-University Council of Ohio. Gettman is an Adjunct Professor for the School of Public Affairs at American University and received the Alice Paul Faculty Award in 2014. Gettman also serves on the Leadership Circle for Women in Government Relations (WGR) a professional society for government relations and public affairs professionals.

Maura LaGue

Maura LaGue serves as Women In Government's Managing Director. In this role, she is responsible for the execution and management of the operational facets of WIG’s national conferences, regional meetings, state policy briefings and other outreach receptions and events held nationwide. As a former business owner in the US and South America, Maura brings valuable private sector insight into WIG’s non-profit context and looks forward to furthering WIG’s efforts to connect state work to the global landscape.

Prior to her work with WIG, Maura earned a BA in Slavic Studies from Indiana University with concentrations in Eastern European and Russian Studies and Central Asia.  Through her past business ventures, she was member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (Indianapolis, Indiana) and Venamcham (Venezuela). Additionally, she has worked on economic development projects on behalf of other entities.

As a DC resident, Maura does not enjoy any state representation but she actively supports her local government through volunteering and votes in every election.

Policy Manager

Katie Lanzarotto

Katie Lanzarotto is the Policy Manager at Women In Government. Katie has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Quinnipiac University. She came to the organization after having worked as a Legislative Aide in the Connecticut General Assembly. While at the Connecticut General Assembly, she worked for four legislators, taking care of constituent issues and working on various legislative initiatives that were of importance to her assigned legislators and to the House Democratic Caucus. Prior to working in the Connecticut General Assembly, Katie worked on various campaigns in her home state of Connecticut both during and after college and was an intern in the Connecticut General Assembly in 2012.

Outreach and Development Manager

Laura Blake

Laura Blake is the Outreach and Development Manager at Women In Government. In this role, she oversees State Legislator recruitment for national policy conferences and state events and identifies funding prospects and cultivates sponsorships from corporations and foundations. Laura earned her Master’s degree from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University and her Bachelor’s degree in Business from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York.

Prior to joining Women In Government, Laura worked in both the private and non-profit sectors in Washington, DC. Laura has extensive experience with project management, proposal writing, and the facilitation of educational programming.
