Director of Policy & Programs

Libby Derting

Libby Derting serves as the Director of Policy and Programs for Women In Government. In this role, Libby works to provide high quality programming at our conferences and educational forums, focusing on policy resources and initiatives in healthcare, higher education, economic development, energy and the environment and transportation.

She brings years of legislative and legal experience to the position, including experience as an attorney and government affairs representative for top-tier trade associations and Fortune 500 companies. Prior to joining Women In Government, Libby served as the Director of State and Local Affairs at the American Institute of Architects and as Manager of Government Relations at Symantec Corporation. She has also worked as counsel to the Consumer Healthcare Products Association and Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers.

Libby received her BA and MA from the University of Tennessee and completed her law degree at The George Washington University Law School.

Program Manager

Heather Godwin

Heather Godwin joined Women In Government in December 2009 and will serve as the Program Manager. In this new role, she will manage the event, meeting and administrative logistics for all of Women In Government's events including the Regional Conferences, Task Force Meetings, Summits and State Briefings and will work closely with all WIG departments. Heather received her degree in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations, and a Marketing Cognate from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA.

Heather's previous experience includes planning and executing an extensive list of fundraising, membership and corporate events throughout the United States. Most recently, she served as a Major Donor Program Director for a major political party, where she managed one of the premier membership donor clubs and planned a variety of events with VIPs and elected officials for the 2008 election. Prior to this, Heather worked in New York City for Pfizer, Inc. as a State Government Relations Coordinator, where she managed the meeting and event logistics for the State Government Relations Department and supported two senior executives.

Heather also enjoyed several years at the Republican Governors Association working in the Finance Department, coordinating fundraising and membership events to raise funds to provide financial support to competitive gubernatorial races.
