Annually, commercial aviation helps drive more than $1 trillion in U.S. economic activity, and nearly 11 million U.S. jobs. At Women In Government's 18th Annual State Directors' Conference, Sharon Pinkerton gave a presentation on her work as the Senior Vice President for Legislative and Regulatory Policy at Airlines for America (ATA) where she leads policy development on legislative and regulatory matters, and works with Capitol Hill and the Administration. ATA’s members and their affiliates transport more than 90 percent of all U.S. airline passenger and cargo traffic, and Ms. Pinkerton spoke about how new airline regulations will affect consumers. She discussed that the airline industry has been consistently losing money and have been fighting regulations athat will cost airlines large sums of money and continue the loss of revenue that is crippling the industry. At the current level of regulations the only way Airlines can survive is by cutting service, which can negatively impact the smaller communities where the services are cut.
