The Aging Face of Healthcare
State leaders from around the country convened to discuss The Aging Face of Healthcare at a meeting in March of 2001. Women In Government created this unique opportunity, bringing together state legislators, Medicaid Directors, and the pharmaceutical industry to discuss how the healthcare system is being affected by and responding to aging of the population. Presentations during this meeting included the following topics:
- Overview of Aging and the Challenges Faced by State and Industry
- The Need for Individualized Care for the Elderly
- International Pricing of Pharmaceuticals
- Overviews of Medicaid from the Perspective of Legislators, Medicaid Directors and the Pharmaceutical Industry
The result of this meeting of the three major entities in the Medicaid discussion was the decision to launch an online community to continue the dialogue on these topics. There has been an overwhelming response by the legislators, Medicaid Directors, and the Pharmaceutical Industry to the online community. By the end of December, 2001 the online community had 1,200 members. Constructive dialogue on the topics of aging and healthcare continues.
