Women In Government Actions
According to the Office of Men's Health Resource Center, men, on average, die 6 years younger than women. According to the Glickman Urological Institue, prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in men. Prostate cancer is also 66% more common in African American males than in white males.
Women In Government has used various conferences and meetings to educate state legislators about men's health issues. In 2006, our Outreach to Vulnerable Constituents: Legislative Training Sessions included a segment on heart disease in men focused on disparities, and disseminating prevention and screening information to men. Dr. Charles Modlin and Carlumandarlo Zaramo from the Minority Men's Health Center at the Glickman Urological Insitute in Cleveland provided informative presentations to the legislators.
