Each week, we feature the amazing work that women legislators do in their states.
This week, we are featuring Representative Rita Smart, the WIG Kentucky State Director. Representative Smart spoke to constituents and colleagues at Diabetes Day at the Capitol in Frankfort, KY. The event was held on February 5th of this year and provided an opportunity to publicly recognize legislators who have made an impact on diabetes while providing critical information on the disease.
Representing District 81, Representative Smart was elected first elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 2010.
Representative Smart has also made notable strides in the realm of anti-bullying. Smart sponsored a Bill designating October as Bullying Prevention Month in Kentucky. The Bill also encourages student participation in anti-bullying campaigns and teaches prevention methods. The 2014 session of the Kentucky General Assembly passed the anti-bullying Senate Bill 20, which was a combined initiative between the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Please join us in thanking Representative Smart for all the incredible work that she does for Kentucky!
