Florida Diabetes State Briefing

Women In Government will bring together Florida legislators for a State Briefing hosted by Representative Janet Cruz on diabetes in Tallahassee, Florida on April 21, 2014, to provide legislators with ways to identify costs and problems associated with diabetes in their state.
The State Briefing will feature a presentation about diabetes prevalence, an update on diabetes caucuses, and information on why it is important to keep diabetes as a continual priority. According to the CDC, 11.8 percent of Floridians have diabetes, and the percentage is only growing. This briefing will provide ways that legislators can identify the problems and costs associated with diabetes in their state. Women in Government are excited to host Florida Legislative Black Caucus Chair, Representative Alan Williams, Hispanic Caucus Chair, Senator Rene Garcia, and Office of Illinois House Republican Leader Nicole Niwa. The caucus chairs will be updating Florida state legislatures recent diabetes caucus issues and plans and Ms. Niwa will address diabetes policies and the caucuses.
